1. 20-Year-Old Stabbed to Death Over Cricket Row
A 20-year-old BBA student, who slapped a friend during a fight over cricket match, was stabbed to death allegedly by the latter and his three associates in Nandini Layout, off West of Chord Road.
G Uma Maheshwar, a resident of Ganesha Block, near Nandini Layout, and only son of civil contractor Gopal Raj, was stabbed near his house on Wednesday night. He was rushed to a hospital in Malleswaram where he died on Thursday morning. Chandan alias ABCD Chandan, of Chikkabidarakallu, and his three associates, including a minor, are on the run. Maheshwar was a student of MES Institute of Management, Rajajinagar. Chandan, a school dropout, was looking for a job.

2. Bypolls: 165 Candidates Remain in Poll Fray; Only Nine are Women
The stage is set for bypolls in 15 Assembly constituencies across Karnataka, with 165 candidates remaining in the fray after the deadline for withdrawal of nominations ended on Thursday.
Of the 165 candidates, only nine are women. In fact, in Gokak, Shivajingar, KR Pet, Hunsur, KR Puram, Hirekerur, Ranebennur, and Athani constituencies, there are no women in the fray.

3. CBSE Seeks Probe Into DPS School Premises Leased out to Nithyananda Ashram
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Thursday stated that it is not aware of the current location of self-styled godman and rape-accused Nithyananda. The Ministry added that it had not received any information from the Gujarat police or from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) regarding him. Nithyananda has been booked by the Gujarat police after three minor children (a boy and two girls) were rescued from Nithyananda's Hirapur Ashram in the outskirts of Ahmedabad and united them with their parents.
“We have not received any formal information, neither from the Gujarat police nor from the MHA. Also, for extradition request, we need to know the location and the nationality details of the person. We do not have such information about him yet,” the MEA has said.

4. DSP Ganapathy Suicide: CBI Clears George, Two IPS Officers
In a relief to former home minister and Congress leader KJ George and two senior IPS officers, Central Bureau of Investigation has given them a clean chit in the case pertaining to suicide of DSP SK Ganapathy.
The agency, which probed the suicide following a 2017 Supreme Court directive, submitted a closure report before the trial court in Madikeri.
Besides George, who was home minister when Ganapathy was found dead at a lodge in Madikeri on 7 July 2016, IPS officers Pronab Mohanty and AM Prasad were also named as accused in the case.

5. Three Teenagers Held for Torturing Minor
The Sampangirama Nagar police have detained three teenagers who allegedly tortured and physically abused a minor boy while pretending to teach him how to swim.
The alleged incident took place in Kanteerava stadium on Wednesday. The boys recorded the torture on a mobile phone and uploaded it on social media, which was how the incident came to light.
Taking serious note of the incident, the jurisdictional Sampangirama Nagar police tracked down the three teenagers and produced them before the Karnataka Child Welfare Committee.
