1. After Nomination Rush, Poll Battle Moves Into High Gear
There was a scramble to hand in nomination papers for the byelections to 15 assembly segments on Monday, which was the last day of the process.
Most of the candidates had been waiting to submit the documents on November 18, considered an auspicious day. There was a government holiday on November 15 and the following day, though a working one, was viewed as inauspicious so many candidates stayed away.
Another reason for the rush was that Congress announced the last batch of candidates for seven seats late on Saturday night and JD(S), for three, on Sunday night. The scrutiny of nominations will take place on Thursday, and the last day for withdrawal of the papers is Thursday.

2. BJP Moves EC Against Satish Jarkiholi, KR Pet JD(S)
The state BJP has filed complaints with the Election Commission against Congress leader Satish Jarkiholi and JD(S) workers from KR Pet constituency, here on Monday.
In the first complaint, they alleged that Satish had violated the model code of conduct by making personal attacks on BJP's Gokak candidate Ramesh Jarkiholi. "Satish Jarkiholi, who was a minister in the Cong-JD(S) coalition government, claimed that Ramesh became a minister by prostrating in front of Laxmi Hebbalkar. Satish had opposed the move to induct Ramesh into the Cabinet by describing him as mad," the complaint read.
Noting that the personal attack amounted to model code violation, they urged the Election Commission to issue a notice to Satish and restrain him from making such remarks in the future.

3. Bengaluru East Zone Flouts Plastic Ban, Pays 55% Penalty
BBMP’s East zone accounted for about 5% of the 38,000kg of plastic seized till date this year, but contributed over 55% (Rs 1.2 crore) of the Rs 2.1 crore fine.
BBMP special commissioner (solid waste management) D Randeep attributed the zone’s high-penalty contribution to repeat defaulters. Stating that the zone has a high concentration of restaurants, cafes and pubs (Indiranagar, Koramangala, Kammanahalli), Randeep said: “They are repeat offenders. They don’t have any problem in paying the fine. Restaurants are big business and the penalties are a piffling matter for them.”

4. HC: 21 Customs Officials Must Stand Trial in ₹10L Bribery Case
Twenty-one officials of the Customs department who allegedly demanded Rs 10 lakh as bribe for releasing certain goods imported by a city businessman about four years ago will have to stand trial under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
The high court dismissed their petitions, citing that in view of prima facie videographic evidence, the requirement to get prior sanction under Section 17-A of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 for inquiry may not be required. Justice PB Bajanthri stated this his order on 5 November.
D Anil, additional director, office of additional director-general, directorate systems and data management and several others had challenged the FIR filed before the 21st Additional City Civil and Sessions Judge and special judge for CBI cases.

5. Conductor Pushes Girl Out of Moving Bus

A 16-year-old college girl sustained multiple injuries after she was pushed out of a moving KSRTC bus by its conductor who objected to her travelling with a student pass.
Bhoomika, a 1st year PUC student at Jyothi Kendriya Vidyalaya in Yelachenahalli, fell face-first onto the road, suffering injuries on her forehead and left knee. She also broke her teeth.
Speaking to DH, she said she boarded the KSRTC bus (KA-42 F-2217) to Kanakapura around 3 pm on 11 November. Soon after the bus started moving, the conductor asked her to buy a ticket. When she told him she had a student pass, he said such passes were not allowed on the bus. Though the girl pleaded that she will get down at the next stop, the conductor insisted that she alight immediately. In the next few moments, she was pushed out of the moving bus.
