1. Who Breached Hulimavu Lake? Three Days on, Police yet to Make Arrests
Three days after investigating the cause of the Hulimavu Lake breach, Bengaluru police have zeroed in on three people: An elected representative, BBMP assistant engineer Shilpa, and Venkatesh who owns the earth-moving machine that dug the bund.
However, police had no arrests to show till late Tuesday night but have only recorded the statements of Shilpa and Venkatesh.
It’s suspected that the rising water level in Hulimavu Lake was flooding a place of worship in its neighbourhood. Local fishermen reportedly dumped debris in the waste weir to block lake water from flowing out so that they could get a better catch.
With 1 foot of water in the place of worship, the elected representative is said to have asked Shilpa to remove the debris and she, in turn, allegedly asked Venkatesh to do it.

2. Winter’s not Here, but Mercury Dips to 16.7 Celcius
It’s not winter yet, but evenings in Bengaluru are getting nippy, thanks to a sudden drop in minimum temperature caused by easterly winds from the Bay of Bengal, which began blowing into the city two weeks ago.
A scan of minimum temperatures recorded in the city by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) from 21 November to 26 November shows mercury level has been steadily dipping. While the minimum temperature stood at 20.4 degrees Celsius on 21 November, it dipped to 16.7 degrees on 26 November. It is, however, expected to show a marginal rise in the next 24 to 48 hours, say meteorologists.
“We expect minimum temperatures recorded in Bengaluru to go up marginally over the next 24 to 48 hours, after which the intensity of fog in the mornings will reduce. The easterly winds are expected to travel westward and away from Karnataka,” said Mahesh Palawat, chief meteorologist, Skymet Weather.

3. Digital Frauds Outpace Robberies in Tech City
There has been a big spurt in sophisticated scams involving digital technology, with such cases overtaking robberies and muggings over the last two years.
Police are grappling with a flood of complaints as FIRs against digital frauds have crossed 10,000 in Bengaluru alone this year. In comparison, the incidents of robbery, banditry and chain snatching in the entire state stood at 1,595 till September this calendar year, with the police saying it may touch last year’s number of 2,250.
Experts said lack of regulation covering recent advances in digital payments, such as real-time United Payments Interface (UPI), is the main reason. The nature of the crimes indicates that data leaks are exposing an increasing number of online users to criminals.
