A day after three men were beaten to death by a mob in Bihar’s Begusarai, the Chhaurahi Police Station in-charge was suspended for negligence in the ongoing investigation.
The three men were lynched by a mob in Bihar’s Begusarai on Friday, 7 September, which caught hold of them while they were allegedly trying to kidnap an 11-year-old girl from inside her school premises.
According to Begusarai Superintendent of Police Aditya Kumar, the incident took place in Narayanipur village under Chhaurahi outpost where the alleged criminals, who were armed, barged into a primary school and tried to drag out 11-year-old Nageena Kumari, daughter of a local resident Ramnath Paswan. She was a student of class V, and the incident took place at 10:30 AM, reported Hindustan Times.
Teachers of the school put up a resistance following which the miscreants threatened to open fire, the SP said, adding that other school children ran out in the meantime and raised an alarm.
According to the SP, a number of villagers reached the spot upon which the trio panicked and started firing but ran out of ammunition. He said that the crowd - armed with sticks, bricks and stones - pounced upon the three men and thrashed them severely.
By the time a police party reached the spot, Mukesh Mahto - a notorious criminal of the area - had succumbed to injuries while his two accomplices Shyam Singh and Heera Singh died on the way to a hospital, reported PTI, quoting Kumar.
Kumar told PTI that the bodies have been sent for post-mortem while an FIR has been lodged in connection with the incident and those found guilty of taking the law into their own hands will be arrested.
