The Supreme Court on Friday, 8 March, referred the politically sensitive Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid land dispute case for mediation by a panel headed by former apex court judge FMI Kalifulla and gave it eight weeks to complete the process.

The other members of the panel will be spiritual guru Sri Sri Ravishankar and senior advocate Sriram Panchu, said a five-judge Constitution Bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and added that they can co-opt more members if needed.

Temple Should Be Built at Lord Ram’s Birthplace: Uma Bharti

‘SC Should Have Chosen a Neutral Person Instead of Sri Sri’: Owaisi

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, on the other hand, expressed his disapproval towards the appointment of Sri Sri Ravi Shankar as a member of the panel. He said that it’d be better if court appointed a neutral person in return.

“Sri Sri Ravi Shankar who has been appointed a mediator had earlier made a statement ‘if muslims don’t give up their claim on Ayodhya, India will become Syria.’ It would’ve been better if SC had appointed a neutral person.”
