The Supreme Court, on Tuesday, 12 August, said that the Assam NRC registration exercise will not be reopened and ordered the NRC authority to publish the list of those excluded on 31 August.

The SC said that the exercise cannot be repeated on the basis of the legal challenges raised before it. Further, it said that no sample re-verification of data will happen.

A bench comprising Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice RF Nariman said those born after 3 December 2004 will not be included in the NRC if any of the parent is a doubtful voter and/or has been declared foreigner by a tribunal or there are doubts over his/her nationality.

The SC also said that the NRC data will be kept as secure as Aadhaar data and a limited access of the data will be provided to the Centre and state coordinators.

The SC also ordered that the hard copies of the supplementary list and inclusions be given to the concerned District offices.

The orders under the Illegal Migrants (Determination by Tribunal) will now be challenged before the Guwahati High Court, CNN News18 reported.
