Protesters on Tuesday, 23 October, tried to put up blockades on railway tracks and disrupt train services across Assam as part of the 12-hour state-wide bandh called by 46 organisations against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016.
Demonstrators also burnt tyres on roads in various parts of the state, reported PTI.
Forty-six organisations had called for a 12-hour statewide bandh, being led by the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) and Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP).
Political parties, including the Congress and the AIUDF, extended their support to the bandh.

NRC: SC Asks Stakeholders to File Replies on Documents Which Can be Used to Claim Inclusion
The Supreme Court on Tuesday asked all the stakeholders to file their respective replies with regard to the five documents (to be used for claiming inclusion), which were earlier excluded in the report submitted by Prateek Hajela, the NRC coordinator.
The apex court also asked Hajela to explain and apprise to all stakeholders within two days as to why he had excluded these five documents in the case.
Asom Gana Parishad Holds Protest Rally in Guwahati Against Citizenship Bill
The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) on Tuesday staged a massive protest rally in Guwahati against the Citizenship Amendment Bill, asking the BJP-led government at the Centre to throw the legislation into the dustbin if they respected the historic Assam Accord and the people of the state.
AGP President Atul Bora also termed the Assam Accord as the party's "Gita, Bible and Quran" and said that it must be implemented for the sake of securing the rights of the indigenous people.
