Days after his exit from the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party, Ashish Khetan said he cannot do party politics and would prefer focussing on his legal practice for now.

Khetan specified that his exit from the AAP came due to his inability to participate in party politics. “My reason is personal. I was contemplating for past one and half years. I spoke to my family and friends about it and came to the conclusion that I won't be able to do party politics. I wanted to focus on my legal practice,” Khetan told news agency ANI.

This is the second resignation from the party’s core team. It came within a week of Ashutosh’s resignation.

Khetan, on Saturday, 25 August, put an end to speculations around his future in other political parties. The former AAP leader clarified that he will not be joining the Congress.

“I still have a lot of respect and love for party members. My departure from the AAP does not mean I am joining any other party,’’ Khetan told ABP news.

For the last one and one-and-a-half years, I was having self-doubts about my own journey whether I want to stay in electoral politics in the future. I decided that at this point in my life I don’t want to go any deeper into electoral politics and return to academics maybe even journalism at some point and focus on law. This is why I decided to quit the party.
Ashish Khetan to NDTV

Suggesting a shift in party’s core values, Khetan told NDTV, "When I joined the party, it was 90 percent a revolution and 10 percent a party... (but) a revolution cannot last forever. All parties that have come out of a revolution have eventually had to come to politics.”
