“My friend claims his car was attacked near the Gujarat CM’s residence in 2002, but he wasn’t even covering the riots then”, is how Rajdeep Sardesai greeted Twitter on Tuesday morning.

Tweeting a video from two years ago of his ex-colleague Arnab Goswami, he followed up with a barrage of tweets, calling Goswami a “feku” who made Sardesai “sorry for [his] profession”.

The YouTube link shared by Sardesai in a tweet has been removed for reasons unknown.

However, the video can also be seen in the link below.

In the video, Goswami explains that men armed with trishuls attacked his car and asked for the identities of him and his driver. While Goswami had his press card to show, his driver did not, but he had a tattoo/imprint of “he raam” on his arm, which the mob saw and so allowed them to pass.

Goswami’s speech was apparently made in front of a crowd at Assam, when Congress was in power.

Sardesai begged to differ, reaffirming to a Twitter user who sought clarification that it was not Arnab with whom the incident happened, but with Sardesai himself.

When another Twitter user called out Sardesai for mudslinging at another journalist, he said that he was merely setting the record straight.

Senior journalists Nalin Mehta and Sanjeev Singh also backed up what Sardesai had to say, as they were also present in Gujarat at the time of the riots.

The Quint has reached out to Arnab Goswami for a comment and the story will be updated if/when we receive a response.
