The Indian armed forces are facing a shortage of 11,116 officers with the Army the worst affected, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar informed the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.
Parrikar mentioned that as of January 1st, the Army was facing a shortage of 9,642 officers, while the Navy and Air Force had a shortage of 1,322 and 152 officers respectively.
He also stated that the government has taken various steps to make jobs in armed forces attractive. These include implementation of the recommendations of the 6th Pay Commission with an improved pay structure, better accommodation and attractive promotion prospects.
