Ambia Sohrab, son of a senior TMC leader Md Sohrab is suspected to have killed an Air Force official on Wednesday. The IAF officer, 21-year-old Corporal Abhimanyu Gaud, a drill instructor for the Republic Day parade died after being crushed under the Audi which was driven by Ambia. Ambia, along with his brother Tousiff Sohrab aka Sambia, and their father are still absconding.

“My father is an ex-MLA and now a Trinamool leader. Think of the consequences before you even touch me,” threatened Ambia Sohrab to a bouncer who tried to ask him why he landed a punch on the manager’s face who was refusing him and his friends entry into a Kolkata discotheque. The incident took place on a Saturday night in December 2015.
Influential Father’s Shield
This is not the first time Ambia has taken advantage of his father’s position and influence. Ambia’s father, Md Sohrab is a senior TMC leader in the Burrabazar constituency, Kolkata’s business hub. He was formerly associated with the RJD and had enjoyed the Left’s support.
Ambia, the Social Media Flasher
A day after his father’s victory in the 2006 West Bengal assembly elections, Ambia slapped a traffic cop after flouting traffic norms. He was detained, but was let off after a few hours.
Ambia’s Facebook account evidently exists to showcase his fleet of cars. The family, however, did not own a single car till 2006, at least that is what Md Sohrab claimed when he filed his nomination to contest the elections.
No Cars Till 2006
The sudden surge of high-end cars ten years down the line can be attributed to Sohrab’s powerful hold on Mechua phalpatti (fruit market) in Central Kolkata. His high stakes in the construction business also contributes to the power which Ambia flashes to gain immunity against law.
Ambia Owns a Company
Ambia’s Facebook account claims that he is the director of Aafreen Inn and the proprietor at Amby International. Aafreen Inn was incorporated in June 2014 and deals with hotels, camping sites and other provision of short-stay accommodation. The other directors of the company include his father and brother Tousiff Sohrab aka Sambia.
His Friends Include Sons of Politicians
Nothing much is known about Ambia’s education, but his profile claims that he studied at Calcutta University. His friends include sons of several noted political leaders. One of his close friends is Kadir Khan, the gym instructor who was the prime accused in the Park Street rape case. Khan is still absconding. Ambia is also known to boast about his father’s influence, using it as an entry pass wherever he went.
