Allahabad University student Neha Yadav, who had been arrested in July last year after showing black flags at Amit Shah’s convoy, has been suspended from the university.

A 14-point suspension order and show-cause notice, dated 28 May, has been served to her by the Dean, Students’ Welfare, Harsh Kumar, and Proctor Ramsevak Dubey, who said that there have been several complaints of indiscipline against her.

“She engages in and encourages indiscipline. There have been several accusations against her, including going late to the hostel and misbehaving with the guards…,” proctor Dubey told BBC in Hindi.

Recently, Yadav had been involved in a protest against emptying of hostels after the end of the academic term. Some students wanted that they be allowed to stay for some extra days in view of an upcoming exam.

‘Fighting for Students’ Welfare’

Meanwhile, Yadav has labelled the allegations against her as baseless. Claiming that she has been targeted ever since the black flag incident took place last year, she told BBC:

“… There have been allegations that I have several cases against me. But whatever cases have been against me are because I fought for students’ welfare. I have been the topper in the university entrance exam and I got admission here on that basis. However, some people in the university administration are bent on spoiling my career with malicious intent. The only reason for that is that I have been raising my voice against the flaws here.”

The administration is purportedly of the view that if Yadav gives assurance about not engaging in ‘indiscipline’ in the future, her suspension will be revoked.

Active in politics, Yadav has been associated with the Samajwadi Party’s student wing – the Samajwadi Chatra Sabha.

She also said that she will not bow down and will take the matter to National President of Samajwadi Party Akhilesh Yadav. She also plans to file an application in the high court to get justice.

The Quint has learnt that Yadav is a BHU topper and was also accused of joining the protests at the university that took place three years ago.
