Ghalib Guru, son of Afzal Guru – who was executed in 2013 for his role in 2001 Parliament attack – said he owns an Aadhaar card and hopes that he will get an Indian passport to avail international medical scholarship.
“I appeal that I should get a passport. I also have an Aadhaar card. If I get a passport, I can avail international medical scholarship,” said Guru, speaking to news agency ANI.
The 18-year-old lives in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district with his mother, Tabassum, and says that he got the Aadhaar card in 2013.
According to the newspaper, while Guru would prefer to make it to a medical college in the country, he wants to keep his options open.
“If I don’t qualify here, I would like to go abroad. A college in Turkey may give me scholarship later on,” Guru told ANI.
Guru Credits Mother for ‘Isolation’
Guru credits his mother for isolating him from local terror groups and those from Pakistan, reported The Times of India.
“The credit goes to my mother. She created an isolated space for me ever since I was in class fifth. She always said that even if someone said anything to me, I shouldn’t react. My priority is my mother and not what people say,” he told The Times of India.
Afzal Guru’s Son Accuses Times of India of Misquoting Him
Speaking to Kashmir Observer, Afzal Guru’s son accused The Times of India of misquoting him.
“They have quoted as me saying that I will be a proud Indian citizen when I get my passport. All I said was that I was happy to have an Aadhaar card and a passport will help me pursue higher education abroad,” Ghalib reportedly said.
The TOI report had quoted him as saying that he “will be a proud Indian citizen when I get my passport.”
In a lengthier version of this video, Ghalib can be heard saying that the report misquoted him, adding, “How can I be a proud Indian citizen? They killed my father”.
