Pakistan’s foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, on Wednesday 11 September, said that the situation in Jammu and Kashmir can potentially lead to an “accidental war” between India and Pakistan, Hindustan Times reported.

Qureshi was speaking on the sidelines of the UNHRC session in Geneva.

The report also quoted him as saying that even though both the countries understand the consequences of a conflict, “an accidental war” cannot be ruled out.

Qureshi had also called for an international investigation into the situation in Jammu and Kashmir. He told the reporters in Geneva that he has invited the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet to take stock of the situation, both on the Indian and Pakistani side.

“She should visit both places and report as objectively as she can so that the world knows what the true... situation is,” he was quoted by HT as saying.

He further turned down the possibility of bilateral talks with India, citing the 'mindset' in New Delhi.
