In what many claim to be a hare-brained idea, the Department of Pre-University Education (DPUE) is suggesting solutions that include a ban on WhatsApp to make sure the Chemistry re-exam on April 12 goes smoothly.

As the previous leakages seemed to have been reportedly done through WhatsApp, the department officials have reportedly proposed to the Cyber Crime police that WhatsApp should be banned for a couple of days until the students finish the exam.

The officials of the department also claim that this will reduce the panic among students. However, it is obvious that a ban across the state would create other problems and might kick up a row.

But we told them that WhatsApp is not the basic communication tool. We are not asking them to jam the mobile network. We want them to ban WhatsApp for two days.

Earlier they had also proposed to screen question papers at exam halls through Doordarshan.

Massive protests erupted in Bengaluru and other places in Karnataka after Karnataka Department of Pre-University Education (DPUE) cancelled the pre-university Chemistry examination on March 31 for the second time.

A total of 1.74 lakh students were affected by the cancellation. The pre-university Chemistry exam was scheduled for March 21, and had been cancelled because the question paper had been leaked. Following that, the re-exam had been scheduled for March 30.

Some angry students said that they are not going to appear for the exam for the third time. They added that this delay would affect their national-level entrances.

Criminal Investigation Department arrested three people, including a minister’s PA in connection with the case.
