Delhi Police on Monday found a 90-year-old man living with the decomposing corpse of his 85-year-old wife.
Govind Ram Jethani had been living with the corpse of his wife Gopi since four days, before he came out of his Kalkaji home to ask the neighbours for help, reported The Hindustan Times.
Police found the woman to have died of natural causes, however, neighbours suspect the cause to be malnutrition.
A childless couple, the police officers also suspect Jethani to be mentally-unstable, a phenomenon not uncommon amongst elderly living in cities.
Narinder Kumar, Jethani’s nephew has been traced by police, who said he had been adopted by the couple as a child but a dispute between them led to the end of their relationship.
“I have been sending them money”, said Kumar.
However, Roopchand, Jethani’s brother said the couple never adopted anyone.
The couple was a recluse and would keep their doors and windows shut. A neighbour said they had seen Jethani take walks, which he had stopped a few days ago.
