A 65-year-old man named Rakesh Jain, a resident of Ghaziabad’s Vaishali, who was "missing" since 10 November, was found after eight days on Friday, 18 November.

Jain had gone missing after allegedly being preyed on by online extortion scammers.

His daughter Nikita Jain, a journalist, who had tweeted about her father's disappearance shared the news and said, "I can’t be ecstatic enough now that my father is back home. But the dialogue about cyber crime needs to be done and spread as much as possible. Hearing horrific stories from him about how they harassed him, it gives me chills to imagine what he might have gone through."

Dilshad Garden police haad earlier registered a missing person case after the family lodged a complaint.

"My father went to office on 10 November in the morning and went missing around 3.30 pm. CCTV footage showed that he was last seen taking an auto outside his office in Dilshad Garden area," Nikita had said earlier.

Jain reportedly left his phone in his office before he went “missing.”

Police Investigation So Far

After scanning Jain's call records, the police found out that he had been receiving calls by extortionists for the past few weeks and that he had even made a payment of Rs 10,000.

Jain's family was unaware of these calls.

"Since my father is not tech savvy and does not use any UPI app, he paid the amount in cash to a friend and asked him to transfer the money. We only got to know all this after he went missing," said Nikita.

Attempts to follow the money trail and trace the auto were being made by the police before he was found.

Worried for her father, Nikita had earlier said:

"We just want that he returns safe. We hope he reads our message and comes back as this is not his fault. The police are with him and his family is with him. People need to be aware of such scams so that no one faces such harassment.”
