The Kolkata playschool where a two-year-old boy was allegedly sexually assaulted on 2 July, remained shut on 6 July, even as angry parents protested outside its gates, demanding that the school be permanently closed.
On the parents’ complaint, the police have filed an FIR against unknown people under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Speaking to The Quint, the father of the victim demanded justice for his son.
I fell we should all come together to check, and do whatever we can so such an incident doesn’t occur again.
According to a report by NDTV, the matter came to light when the mother of the child picked him up from the playschool. The boy was crying and the mother became suspicious after she saw the child’s blood-stained clothes.
There were injuries on his private parts and the police told NDTV that the medical report has confirmed assault.
The Indian Express quoted the father as saying, in his complaint:
We rushed him to a doctor, who suspected that an object was inserted in his rectum due to which it was in a swollen condition.
Speaking to The Quint, the mother of the victim pleaded for Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s intervention in the case.
I request Chief Minister Banerjee to permanently shut the school down, so other students are safe, and no mother ever has to shed a tear like me.
The parents told NDTV that they took up the matter with the school authorities and demanded to see the CCTV footage, but the school principal denied any abuse and sent them back home.
“We were informed that the CCTV cameras weren’t working properly since 26 June. We suspect the school authorities might have intentionally deleted the footage,” The Indian Express quoted the boy’s father as saying.
