A 17-year-old girl committed suicide in Haryana’s Nuh near Gurgaon, on Monday, 30 April, after she was allegedly abducted and raped by eight men in her village.

As reported by The Times of India, the girl had been abducted by the men from Khor Basai village near Sohna, on Sunday morning, when her family members were not at home.

The report states that the men, who live in the same village, came on two bikes and a car and abducted her, according to the police. After raping her, they dumped her outside her house in the early hours of Monday, where she was found in a semi-conscious state.

The girl was found by her cousin, and taken inside the house, where her family was informed, the report adds. Later, the girl’s family reportedly tracked down a few of the accused men, and got embroiled in a brawl with them.

The girl’s father also lodged a complaint with the police and a case of kidnapping and rape was filed, the report says.

According to Hindustan Times, the girl’s family had attempted to counsel her after the incident. Her father, in his statement, said she had even identified one of the accused, who had stalked and misbehaved with her in the past.

However, she hanged herself after her family left for work, the report adds.

The report, referring to the father’s statement, says that the accused belonged to an “influential” family and had tried to put pressure on him to not file a police complaint.
