Four Minors Arrested Over Delhi Teen’s Death in a School Scuffle

The 16-year-old victim was found unconscious in a bathroom inside his school.

Delhi police apprehended three minors over the mysterious death of a class 9 student in Delhi’s Karawal Nagar on Friday, 2 February. The fourth accused was apprehended by the police on Saturday, 3 February.

The 16-year-old victim was found unconscious inside Jeevan Jyoti Senior Secondary School’s bathroom and was taken to a hospital on Thursday, 1 February. He was later referred to the GTB Hospital where he was declared brought dead.

Family members of the deceased alleged that he was thrashed by fellow students. On the basis of their complaint, a case was registered and an investigation has been launched.

CCTV footage confirmed that the boy fell in a fight with some students near the washroom where he was found, the police said.

Three of the students with whom he had a fight have been apprehended, said a senior police officer, adding that they are minors.

“We received a call telling us that a student has been found unconscious in the school’s washroom. The school principal and his mother took him to the hospital where he was declared dead,” the DCP said.

Upon reaching the spot, we scanned through the CCTV footage and learnt that there was a scuffle that took place in the school earlier. A complaint was filed under Section 304 and we have interrogated a few other people. We have got to know the deceased had a fight with four other people.

The DCP suspected that there were punches thrown at the victim and they might have hurt him in a sensitive spot. He further added that the names of four students have come forward and they have converted the Section 304 to Section 302.

The postmortem of the dead body will be done and the investigations will proceed accordingly.
