A 16-year-old housemaid from Jharkhand was killed in New Delhi, and her body dismembered when she demanded her remuneration from the men who brought her to the capital, the The Indian Express reported.

The girl was murdered by four men who had brought her to the national capital, according to police, and her body parts were found in separate packets in Miyanwali Nagar on 4 May.

One of the four accused, Manjeet Singh, has been arrested from his rented flat in Nangloi, the daily reported.

“Manjeet disclosed that he, along with his accomplices, brought the victim, Soni Kumari, to Delhi three years ago. They found her employment at a house in East of Kailash,” DCP Sagar told the Express.

Kumari's monthly salary was Rs 6,000, but Manjeet would take all her money and control her, police said, adding that she had started demanding her salary because she wanted to return home.

“Manjeet took her to his home in Nangloi and tried to pacify her. When his efforts failed, he, along with Shalu (31) and Gauri (36), strangled the girl on 3 May. They then chopped the body, put the pieces in plastic bags and dumped them in a drain nearby. We had to join the head with the torso to identify the girl,” Sagar said.

When the police scanned the CCTV footage, they found some people carrying packets.

The police, then, went to nearly 200 houses with the girl's photograph in the locality. The police said that when they interrogated Manjeet, he confessed to luring girls from poor families in Jharkhand with employment opportunities in the national capital.

The girl was not allowed to get in touch with her family, the police said, adding that Manjeet and his accomplices had told her employer that they were in contact with her parents. The police said they will contact her employer for investigation.
