Eman Ahmed Undergoes Her First CT Scan in Mumbai’s Saifee Hospital
Doctors had withdrawn from treating Eman after her sister alleged that her sibling hasn’t recovered at all.
A day after 12 out of 13 doctors treating Eman Ahmed from Egypt withdrew from her daily treatment, Dr Aparna Govil Bhaskar took to Facebook to announce that Eman successfully fit into a CT scan machine to undergo a scan of her brain.
“No imaging has ever been done before either in Egypt or in India as her size did not allow her to fit onto the table and the gantry of the CT table,” wrote Dr Aparna Govil Bhaskar, Section Chief-Bariatric Surgery, Saifee Hospital.
This CT scan proves that Ahmed has not suffered any fresh stroke after her arrival at the Saifee Hospital. The cause of her repeated seizures is now due to scar epilepsy. In terms of further management, medications and neurological rehabilitation therapy will need to be continued as before.Dr Arun B Shah, Head of Department, Neurology
Dr Muffazal Lakdawala, who has been treating Ahmed since February said that her sister Saimma’s allegation that Eman has not recovered at all is because she does not want to take Eman back to Egypt, owing to financial conditions.
The Hindu quoted bariatric surgeon Dr Aparna Govil Bhaskar as saying:
We will not see her on a daily basis and only go when the patient needs us. Whatever has happened is extremely disappointing. The allegations have stemmed out of the fact that Ms. Selim doesn’t want to take her sister home. It is very hurtful when she claims that the doctors have not been seeing her.
Earlier, doctors had said that Ahmed will be moved to the CT scan room from her ward soon, where people can see the difference between Saimma’s claims and Ahmed’s real condition.
Ahmed, who was the heaviest woman in the world, weighing over 500 kg, has reportedly lost 250 kg in a span of two months since her surgery.
