1. Minor Girl Tricked By Aunt, Raped by Cousin’s Husband

A 35-year-old woman was arrested on Tuesday, 7 May, in for an alleged conspiracy to help her daughter’s husband rape her minor niece at Shulakha village of Mewat.

While the woman was booked under POCSO Act and produced before a court that sent her to 14 days’ judicial custody, the main accused is still at large. Police said the girl was allegedly tricked by her aunt and then raped by the man on 5 May.

According to the survivor’s father, the woman (his brother’s wife) had come to their home on Saturday, 5 May, and asked his daughter to sleep with her that night.

2. Seven Arrested for Shiv Sena Leader’s Murder

The Kurar police have arrested seven people in Mumbai in connection with the murder of Shiv Sena leader Sachin Sawant, including a former employee of Sawant’s.

Sawant, a deputy branch head of the Sena, was shot dead near his Malad residence over two weeks ago.

According to police sources, the arrested men have been identified as Lokesh Singh (25), Abhay Patil (26), Satyendra alias Sonu Ramji Pal (24), Nilesh Sharma (27), Brijesh Patel (36), Brijesh Singh (28) and Amit Singh (25). All seven were produced in court on Tuesday. They have been remanded in custody of the Kurar police till 14 May.

Investigating officers said Sawant was part of a committee for the redevelopment of chawls in Kandivali’s Gokul Nagar and Durga Nagar areas. Patel was allegedly opposed to Sawant’s involvement in the project, and had set up his own office in the area a year ago.

3. Woman Hires Gang to Kill Husband

A newly-married woman was arrested in connection with the murder of her husband in Andhra Pradesh’s Vizianagaram district on Tuesday, 7 May, a day after she accused three unidentified men of killing the 30-year-old during a robbery.

The police said the woman had hired a gang of unemployed BTech graduates for the murder and had paid them off with her wedding ring.

The woman, Y Saraswati (22), had lodged a case at Garugubilli police station of Parvathipuram sub-division on Monday saying three unidentified men had killed her husband, Yamaka Gowrishankar, and robbed her bridal jewellery around 8 pm at ITDA park in Thotapalli.

The police had launched a massive manhunt and locked down Vizianagaram district to nab the accused.

4. Girl Abducted, Raped By Three Youths in Alwar

A 17-year-old girl was allegedly abducted and gang-raped by three youths under the limits of Behror police station area of Alwar district on Tuesday, 7 May.

An FIR has been registered against three accused on the complaint by the survivor’s parents. The police said that a case has been filed against three named persons. “She was abducted by accused with the help of her friend on 12 April. She has alleged that she was taken to a hotel where the accused took turns to rape her”, said an official.

The parents also alleged that their daughter was held captive and abused by the three accused. “They had abducted the girl after forcing her to inhale sedatives”, the official added.

5. Mumbai Man Kills 3-Year-Old Stepson

A 27-year-old man has been arrested in Mumbai for allegedly killing his three-year-old stepson owing to hatred.

The stepfather was identified as Nitin Pandurang Chavan from Sonapur in Mankhurd. Chavan punched and kicked Adarsh Kiran Salve on 3 May because the latter was not his biological son, said an officer of Mankhurd police station. He didn’t want Salve to live with him, said the officer.

Chavan attempted to pass off the case as an accident, but his lie was exposed after a post-mortem report revealed internal and external injuries.

“When Chavan was beating him up, the child’s mother tried to intervene and save him”, said Sanjay Vernekar, senior inspector of Mankhurd police station.

6. Two Arrested on the Charge of Raping Minors

The Asifnagar police in Hyderabad arrested two persons in separate cases for allegedly luring two minor girls on the pretext of marriage and eloping with them.

In the first incident, the police arrested a 29-year-old married man on the charge of kidnap and rape under the POCSO Act after he eloped with a 16-year-old girl. The accused was identified as Mohammed Azeem, a resident of Sitaram Bagh.

In another case, a 20-year-old bike mechanic was arrested on the charge of eloping with a 14-year-old girl on the pretext of marriage.

The accused, Syed Munavar, a resident of Gudimalkapur, kidnapped the girl, who lives in his vicinity, and took her to Gulbarga Dargah on 30 April. Based on the mobile phone location of the girl, the police traced the victim, and arrested Munavar on the charge of kidnap and rape.

7. Two Minor Boys Held for Rape of Tribal Girl

Two minor boys have been arrested in connection with the alleged gangrape of a 12-year-old tribal girl at Harkatta village in Pathergama police station area of Godda district in Jharkhand, a senior police officer said on Tuesday, 7 May.

The girl, who was at Godda to attend a social function, had gone out to attend nature’s call on Sunday night when she was gagged, dragged to the bushes and raped by seven youths, Superintendent of Police Rajeev Ranjan Singh said.

The girl returned home next morning and narrated the ordeal to her mother, who then raised an alarm in the village, he said. “We registered a complaint based on the girl’s statement. Two of them were apprehended last night and we have launched a hunt to arrest the other accused in the case”, the SP said.

8. 39-Year-Old Man Arrested for Robbing Utensils

The Dadar police in Mumbai have arrested a 39-year-old man for allegedly robbing steel utensils from a metals shop in Dadar (West).

The accused has been identified as Rakesh Ramchandra Chavan, a resident of Indira Nagar slums in Sion Koliwada. Chavan is a native of Uttar Pradesh and frequently comes to Mumbai in search of employment.

Assistant police inspector Shamsher Tadvi and police sub-inspector Kalyani Kasode were patrolling the area on Thursday along with their staff, when they received information about Chavan roaming around in the area. “Getting suspicious, they caught hold of him and on investigation found that he is wanted in a case of theft registered in Dadar”, said an official.

The police recovered steel utensils worth Rs 11,600 that Chavan allegedly robbed from Bhavesh Metals, a shop located in Dadar (West) last month.

9. Armed Gang Robs Bank in Mannargudi

A gang of dacoits robbed a private bank near here in broad daylight on Monday, 7 May. Brandishing firearms and knives they threatened the bank staff and took away Rs 6 lakh in cash and gold jewels worth Rs 3 lakh.

Around 2:30 pm, two persons walked into the Mannargudi branch of the Tamil Nadu Mercantile Bank in Asesham and sought to draw a demand draft. The staff told them that it was lunch time and asked them to come at 3 pm. The youngsters left the place only to return with three more persons.

According to police, one of the gang members accosted branch manager Govindarajan, put a knife to his neck and demanded the key to the locker room, while the other four assaulted cashier Tyagarajan and clerk Koteeswaran. There were no customers at the time.
