Unlikely Feminists: RSS Supports Trupti Desai’s Bhumata Brigade

The Sangh also said that men and women in the country should be treated equally.

In a move completely uncharacteristic of the RSS, Zee News reported that the outfit has supported a call for allowing women’s entry in temples across the country. The Sangh added that the issue should be sorted out amicably, through discussion, rather than protest.

Bhaiyyaji Joshi, the general secretary of the outfit, took a bold stance at the RSS national council meeting. He lent his support to Bhumata Brigade leader, Trupti Desai, who has been fighting for women’s right to enter temples across the country, where ancient tradition dictates that they be barred.

He also said that unfair practices carried out in temples should be done away with and that men and women in the country should be treated equally.
