Odisha’s eminent sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik claimed on Tuesday that the sand Santa Claus he created for Christmas this year has found a place in the Limca Book of World Records.

He created the 45ft-high sand Santa Claus on Christmas Eve, which was recognised as the “largest sand Santa Claus as of today” by the Limca Book of World Records.

In an e-mail addressed to Pattnaik, Senior Editor of the Limca Book, Arthy Muthanna Singh said:

We are all very proud of you, as one of Limca Book of Records People of the Year 2009, who keeps setting higher standards and keeps breaking records year after year. Keep it up!

Pattnaik, was assisted by 20 of his students at the Sudarsan Sand Art Institute of Puri. It took 22 hours over two days to build the mammoth structure, which required more than 1000 tonnes of sand. The sand structure is on display at the beach from 24 December till 1 January.

He had also created figures of Lord Jesus and Mother Mary near it. Sudarsan has already eight world records to his credit with the Limca Book of World Records.

Speaking truth to power requires allies like you.
