SC Seeks Registration of FIR Against Those Named in AgustaWestland

The VVIP chopper scam caused chaos in Parliament with both the ruling and opposition parties trading charges.

The Supreme Court issued a notice to the Centre on a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking the registration of FIR against those named by the Italian court in connection with the AgustaWestland case on 6 May.

On 28 April, the Supreme Court agreed to hear a plea to register an FIR against those connected with the AgustaWestland scam.

In the past few weeks, the $530 million VVIP chopper case has caused chaos in the Parliament leading to a war of words between members of the ruling party and the opposition.

BJP leader Subramanian Swamy addressed the Rajya Sabha on Thursday and presented various grounds on which he claimed the Congress party members could be prosecuted in the bribery case.

While Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar also reiterated the same.

Over the course of the last two weeks, the Central Bureau of Investigation has also been interrogating former Air Chief SP Tyagi, who has been named as one of the major influencers in the chopper deal.
