  • The Supreme Court refused to stay the ordinance on National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) on Friday, saying it will lead to further confusion among students.

  • That means, for the time being, states can go ahead with their own separate medical examinations and not use the single National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) results for admitting students.

  • The move came days after the ordinance was signed by President Pranab Mukherjee on Tuesday to keep states out of the court-mandated, all-India medical entrance test this year.

  • Last month, the apex court ruled that NEET would be the only test for admission to medical courses in India. It turned down an appeal by several states who wanted to hold their own separate medical entrance exams.
