The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) has removed RK Pachauri as its chief in light of allegations against him of sexual harassment by a younger colleague.
The governing council of TERI met at Bangalore and removed Pachauri, who was also forced to resign from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change in February, in light of these allegations.
The governing council includes top corporates like Deepak Parekh, Kiran Mazumdar Shaw and Naina Lal Kidwai.
The 29-year old research associate who has filed an FIR at Delhi’s Lodhi Colony Police Station has also accused the 74-year old Nobel laureate of engaging in “sexually laden conversations” over e-mail and SMS.
After five months on leave, Pachauri returned to work after a lower court in Delhi allowed him to do so at all of TERI’s offices except in Gurgaon and the head office in New Delhi.
He has been found guilty by TERI’s internal panel.
According to news reports, Pachauri’s lawyers claim that this is a temporary measure.
Pachauri has been replaced by Ajay Mathur.
