Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal at the Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chnadigarh on Sunday where he has been hospitalised after complains of chest pain on Friday.

88-year-old Badal, the oldest CM in the country, was advised rest by doctors and kept under observation at PGIMER.

All engagements of the CM, who was admitted at PGIMER for treatment on Friday following a congestion and fever, for Sunday, have been cancelled.

He could not go for the scheduled reception of French President Francois Hollande on Sunday as he arrived in India for a three-day visit.

“He is now swiftly recovering,” the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said in Chandigarh on Saturday.

The Chief Minister has been advised by the doctors to recuperate in the hospital and further advised to take complete bed rest for next couple of days in view of the chest congestion. The team of doctors has also decided to keep him under observation for next few days. However, all his routine medical tests were normal and he was well responding to the treatment being given to him.

On Friday evening, Badal was taken to a private hospital in Nawanshahr town in Punjab, 80 km from Chandigarh, after he felt cold and complained of uneasiness.
