The Archeological Survey of India (ASI), Uttar Pradesh Tourism and Agra administration have all misrepresented historical monuments and places on their respective websites, reports The Times of India.

Even the Taj Mahal is represented with an image from the interiors of St Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican, the report claims.

The website has created a paywall set-up to book tickets for a visit to the Taj Mahal and a separate website has been created for the same. The ‘Gallery’ section of the webpage (asi.payumoney.com) has images of the dome of St Peter’s Basilica.

Post the Times of India report, the webpage does not open to the gallery section anymore. One will need to book tickets on the page before being re-directed to other sections.

The facts around the construction of the monument too, are distorted on the UP government’s website.

According to the website, construction of the Taj started in 1632 and ended in 1648, whereas it actually started in 1631.

However, the rate and the time on the website are out of date, the report claims.
