West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday “welcomed” the possible alliance between the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Congress party.
Speaking at the state assembly, Banerjee, virtually dared the Congress and the CPI(M) to make the alliance official, according to The Hindu.
Describing the alliance as “very good”, she said that as a result of the alliance, the Opposition parties would forfeit their deposits in the Assembly polls.
Let there be alliance between the CPI(M) and the Congress. Very, very good. I want that alliance to be made official. We have forged a people’s alliance, and the people will give their verdict and we will come back [to power].
The Leader of the Opposition Surjya Kanta Mishra, however, pointed out that Banerjee had changed sides with the Congress and the BJP time and again.
