In a strongly-worded court order, the Madras High Court has suggested to the Centre that those guilty of child sex abuse must be castrated.

“Though the suggestion of castration looks barbaric, barbaric crimes should definitely attract barbaric models of punishment and the very thought of the punishment should deter the culprit from committing the offence,” the judge said.

The statement read, “The court cannot be a silent spectator, unmoved and oblivious of the horrible blood curdling gang-rapes of children in various parts of India”.

Justice N Kirubakaran said that despite stringent laws, crimes against children are rising. The judge also said that between 2012 and 2014, crimes against children have risen from 38,172 to 89,423.

The law is ineffective and incapable of addressing the menace. The court is sure castration of child rapists will fetch magical results.

The judge also said that such laws have already been implemented by several countries like Russia, Poland and in at least nine states of the US. Union minister Venkaiah Naidu called it a “great message”.
