Two women were travelling on a Kolkata bus when they realised that a fellow passenger was looking at them and masturbating. One of the women decided to take the matter up to the police, but she needed evidence for that. Hence, she pulled out her phone and decided to record the man while he was at it. To make matters worse, as evident from the video recording, on noticing that he was being shot, the man got immensely excited, even to the point of grinning and wagging his tongue at the camera.
On getting home the woman decided to upload the video on Facebook. The post went instantly viral. In the post, she wrote that a similar incident had occurred a few days back as well but back then she did not have any proof so she could not do anything about it.
A friend of mine and I were returning home from Hedua at around 12 in the afternoon, when suddenly in the bus we saw that this man was looking at us and misbehaving in this fashion. Even then no one on the bus protested. In the end the conductor came and laughed and said “what do I do, how do I understand what’s on someone’s mind?”A similar incident had occurred 15 days ago as well. At that time I had got scared so I did not protest. But now I am protesting. I want justice. Another thing, the previous day he took off his pants and underwear and what he did was an even worse sight. That day I did not have the proof in my hands so I could not do anything.
Hours after this post went viral, the Kolkata police shared on their Facebook page that they had nabbed the man.
He has been identified as Ashit Roy, a resident of Baidyabati and a hawker by profession.

He has been caught, and will be punished...The probe began with the highest priority, search was conducted in the entire city in the space of a few hours along with a picture of the man. That man with an unhealthy mentality has been caught just a while back from the area under the Shyampukur police station. He is a hawker by profession. His name is Ashit Roy. He is a resident of Baidyabati. This is his picture. He will be punished, keep faith.
