Judiciary Steps in to Push Govt to Provide Relief to Drought-Hit

India suffered two back-to-back droughts in 2014 and 2015 following the failure of the annual south-west monsoon.

The Supreme Court seems more interested in the fate of those living in drought-ridden areas and the fallout of the ongoing rural distress, according to a report in the Mint.

The last week has seen the apex court as well as the Bombay High Court make caustic observations, implying that the administration has not taken adequate measures to mitigate the impact of drought.

Nobody is saying that you (government) haven’t done enough. We are only saying that more needs to be done… You have failed to recognise the problem in the country. Can you really look at the situation in Latur and Marathwada and say that the country is not facing a severe drought situation?
