In a development in the probe of Jiah Khan’s death, the Bombay High Court stayed the trail against actor Sooraj Pancholi, who is accused of the abetting the actress’ suicide.
The move came after the actress’ mother Rabia sought a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into the high profile death.
Rabia Khan sought the probe after she alleged that the CBI, which is currently investigating the case, had concurred with the findings of Mumbai police that it was a suicide case and not homicidal death.
Rabia’s Advocate spoke about the matter after the Supreme Court asked her to petition in the high court again.
The trial in the lower court is not proceeding in a proper manner and there is likelihood of accused (Sooraj) being discharged in the case.Subhash Jha, Advocate for Rabia
According to Rabia, CBI has been vehemently opposing the appointment of special public prosecutor in the case by Maharashtra government.
Jha said that investigation be handed over to the SIT as CBI also came to the conclusion that the death was not homicidal despite forensic evidence suggesting otherwise.
Jiah’s actor boyfriend Sooraj Pancholi was arrested for abetting her suicide on 10 June 2013 but was released after the High Court granted him bail.
On 3 June 2013, 25-year-old Jiah was found hanging from the ceiling of her house after returning from Pancholi’s house.
