Cabbie Shiv Kumar Yadav was convicted on all charges in the much talked about Uber rape case. His sentencing was to be argued on October 23, but Yadav could not be brought to court. The Delhi court was forced to defer the sentencing till October 30 because Delhi police did not have adequate personnel to provide security to the convict.

But it’s not just the Uber case. According to a report by Hindustan Times, no undertrial will be brought to the court till October 30 because the state police is busy making arrangements for the India-Africa summit that starts on October 26.

We had received a request from the Delhi Police headquarters to attach police personnel from the 3rd battalion to security duty for the India-Africa summit. We already have a shortage of staff and as most of the existing strength is being used in security and law and order arrangements, it is not possible for us to ferry prisoners from jails to courts and back.

According to the report, currently 30,000 personnel are being deployed for the summit and the 81,000-strong personnel force needs 30,000 more.
