A 25-year-old Russian national was allegedly raped by a resort owner in Morjim, Goa on 28 April. However, the accused has not been arrested and neither has the Russian consulate been informed about this crime.

As of current date we have not received either any claims from the mentioned victim or information from the Goan police with the person’s name. Consulate General in Mumbai and Honorary Consulate in Goa are ready to provide this Russian national with any assistance within their competence.

Lookout Notice Issued Against Alleged Rapist

Despite repeated requests from the media, senior police officials have refused to comment while Russian consular officials claim they have only heard about the case from the media and are yet to be officially informed by the police.

According to police sources, a lookout notice has been issued to track down James who remains at large.

Morjim village, where the crime occurred , is part of Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar’s constituency Mandrem and is a popular tourist destination with over 1.5 lakh Russian tourist visiting every year.

In the recent past, several rapes have been reported in Goa including a brutal gang rape in August 2015. Such crimes in the holiday destination could mar its visitor-friendly image and cause a drop in tourism – one of its top revenue earning sectors.
