‘Man-Made Disaster’

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal called the incident a man-made disaster and demanded to know why the Municipal Corporation of Delhi doesn’t rely on modern technology to dispose of solid waste.

Addressing media at the site of the incident, he said this is the “wrong way of disposing garbage”

The municipal corporation had been given notices by the Delhi government for not disposing waste like this. The height of the landfill was more than the permissible level. I will speak to the LG and pressurise the MCD and use modern technology to dispose solid waste.

Addressing media at the site of the incident, an East Delhi MP, said: “It’s a serious concern. I talked to the Lieutenant Governor about shifting the landfill. I’ve also asked for compensation for those who died and he has agreed”.
