Five Arrested in Tanzanian Girl Assault Case in Bengaluru

Five people have been arrested by Bengaluru police in connection with the Tanzanian girl’s assault.

On the night of 31 January 2016 a Tanzanian woman student was allegedly stripped and assaulted by a Bengaluru mob in a case of ‘mistaken identity’. Five people have been arrested by the Bengaluru police in connection with this case.

Tanzanian High Commissioner John Kijazi has also written to the Indian government asking for strict action to be taken against the culprits.

On Wednesday, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj responded to the news via her Twitter account.

Voicing concern over the incident, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi has sought a report from the Karnataka government on the incident immediately. Digvijay Singh, the party-in-charge of Karnataka also tweeted,

According to the Bengaluru police, the complaint by the Tanzanian girl was filed yesterday even though incident happened on Sunday. The DGP, IGP and Bengaluru police are conducting investigations on site where the mob attacked the victim.
