Over a dozen people were questioned on Monday in connection with the murder of a 50-year-old woman and her 2 daughters, whose bodies were found in a decomposed state at their residence in northeast Delhi’s Brahmapuri area.

The case is being investigated from several angles, DCP (Northeast) AK Singla said. An official privy to the investigation said that the matter is primarily being probed on two specific lines as of now – a property dispute and a failed love affair.

Meanwhile, it has emerged that a youth from the locality was once arrested after a complaint of harassment was lodged by one of the daughters. He, along with several others, were detained for questioning and were grilled for a few hours, police said.

On Saturday evening, the triple murder was reported after neighbours of the Brahmapuri area complained to the police of an intolerable stench emanating from the house, which was locked from inside.

The victims have been identified as Saira (50), and her daughters Mehrunisha (19) and Shabnam (9). The police found Saira’s throat slit with a sharp weapon, and multiple stab injuries on all three victims. Prima facie, the police said they had died at least 3 days before they were discovered.

Following the incident, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal took to Twitter to call out to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and also accused Lt Governor Najeeb Jung of inefficiency.

In the past, Kejriwal and Jung have been at loggerheads over the jurisdiction of the Capital.

Saira was reportedly involved in a property dispute with the family of her deceased husband’s second wife. While Saira and her daughters lived in the first floor of the house, the ground floor was rented out to a man, who is missing for the past four days. Efforts are on to trace the missing tenant, according to a senior police official.
