Anand Sharma, Congress deputy leader in the Rajya Sabha has resigned from his membership in the upper house, on Tuesday. He wants to make a comeback as a lawmaker from his home state of Himachal Pradesh, reports NDTV.

Sharma was a member from Rajasthan. Top Sources in Congress confirmed Sharma will be the party’s candidate for the single Rajya Sabha seat for Himachal Pradesh. By 11 March, the nomination will be filed and voting will be held on 21 March, soon after, on the same day, results will be announced.

Congress has 36 members in the 68-member Himachal state assembly house, whereas BJP has 27.

Sharma earlier represented Himachal Pradesh twice before becoming a lawmaker from Rajasthan. If elected from Himachal, this will be Sharma’s fourth term in the Rajya Sabha.

Rajya Sabha is the council of states and its members are elected by legislators in the state assembly.

If BJP does not file a nomination, Sharma will be elected, as he will be unopposed.

Our options are open and the party high command and the state unit will take a call soon. We may spring a surprise.
