Rajasthan Education Minister Vasudev Devnani has said Brahmagupta-II discovered the law of gravity before Issac Newton.

Speaking during a programme at the Rajasthan University in Jaipur on Monday, 8 January, he asserted that Brahmagupta-II came up with the law of gravity a thousand years ago.

We all have studied that Newton gave us the law of gravitation, but delving deeper, we can find that Brahmagupta-II came up with the theory of gravitation 1,000 years before (Newton). Why don’t we include this fact in the curriculum?

The state primary and secondary education minister said the school curriculum was changed and close to 200 Indian personalities, including Rajput king Maharana Pratap, were included. The minister also stressed that education should be value-based.

Since taking over as the state’s Education Minister, Devnani has regularly made dubious claims questioning history and science. In February last year, Devnani had backed a proposal which demanded the alteration of Class 10 social science textbook to read that the Battle of Haldighati was won by Rajput ruler Maharana Pratap, and not Mughal ruler Akbar.

The revision, introduced from the 2017-18 academic session, claims that the "victory of the Mughal forces was not certified".

Devnani also shared an important ‘scientific significance’ and claimed that the cow was the only animal that exhales oxygen while quoting a research website.

The cow is the only animal that inhales and exhales oxygen.

Devnani also added that colds and coughs can be healed if one goes near a cow, and that cow dung has vitamin B that soaks up radioactivity.

In his speech on Monday, the BJP leader also talked about student leader from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Kanhaiya Kumar, and said, "No Kanhaiya should be born in Rajasthan".
