As a state with a history of not voting back the incumbent, Kerala is being seen as a tough election for the Congress, but the party believes that the BJP, which is cutting into the Hindu vote bank of both the ruling UDF and the Left bloc in Kerala, isn’t bad news.
According to The Times of India, the Congress believes it is better placed because of the support of minority groups.
The report quotes party sources as saying it has the “assured support” of Christians and Muslims, to a large extent, which insulates the party from a saffron attack.
But differences between Oommen Chandy and top-post-hopeful Ramesh Chennithala and dissent among its ranks in the state is still a source of worry for the Congress.
