Union HRD Minister and senior BJP leader Smriti Irani announced on Wednesday that Chandra Kumar Bose will be the party’s chief ministerial candidate in West Bengal.

The decision to choose Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s grand-nephew as the party’s chief ministerial face in the state comes just days after poll dates were announced.

Bose had joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in January, in party president Amit Shah’s presence in Kolkata.

Fifty-five-year-old Chandra Bose, son of Amiya Nath Bose, is the convener of The Open Platform for Netaji, a forum of family members and historians, which has, for decades, campaigned for the declassification of files related to the revolutionary leader.
