The first phase of voting for 49 assembly seats spread over 10 districts of Bihar has ended. The Election Commission has announced that the voter turnout has been 57 per cent.
According to the EC, in 2010 the turnout was 50.85 per cent. Polling began amid tight security at 7 am on Monday morning.
A total number of 1.35 crore voters were eligible to vote in the first phase of polls. A total of 583 candidates, including 54 women, are in the fray.
The counting will take place on November 8 after the five phases end.
