A runway littered with gold? That's not heard off too often, but it happened in Russia.

According to The Guardian, the Antonov plane from Russia was taking off after being refuelled in a Yakursk airport in Siberia when its cargo door flew open. This lead to about 200 bars tumbling and falling onto the runway. These gold bars came from Kupol gold mine in Chukotka.

The cargo weighed 9.3 tonnes, reported The Guardian.

The cargo door reportedly became damaged due to the shifting of cargo.

According to The Guardian report, a Russian spokesperson for the company informed that all the cargo has been picked up and there has been no losses. He also said that the bars were a semi-pure alloy of silver and gold, called Dore.

According to the investigators, the incident occured because the cargo was not properly stabilised, reported The Guardian.
