- All state governments have been asked to link Aadhaar with caste and domicile certificates, which will be issued to school students, as part of a first-of-its-kind initiative by the Centre.
- States have been told to ensure that certificates are issued within 60 days of students’ entering Class V or VIII. The development assumes significance as there have been complaints about delays in scholarship grants for students belonging to Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes and of alleged harassment by government officials while getting certificates issued.
- The main objective behind issuing these certificates is to ensure that reserved posts and services in state and central governments are made accessible to SC and ST candidates.
