Balrampur village in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, is buzzing with fervent believers after the discovery of a deceased infant with a birth defect. The defect has rendered the baby’s face inky black, while the rest of her body remains fair.
News 18 reports that the baby, hailed as ‘Maa Kali’ by the villagers, is on display at her mother Krishna’s house where people have been offering prayers and depositing money at her feet. Such is their awe at what they have termed a ‘chamatkar’ (miracle), that the baby is covered in cash amounting to Rs 10,000.
While the prayers and devotions continue still, the maternal and paternal sets of grandparents are feuding over the right to have the baby buried and her last rites performed in their respective villages.
