Emmanuel Macron on Sunday made history by becoming the youngest-ever French leader since Napoleon, defeating far-right nationalist Marine Le Pen. While world leaders took to congratulating the newly elected French President and analysts were busy interpreting the election result, Twitter reacted to Macron’s historic victory in its own unique way.
From drawing parallels between Donald Trump and Macron, to poking fun at both PM Narendra Modi and Rahul Gandhi, to even comparing the incoming French President to macaroons, tweets on Macron were the order of the day.
Donald Trump Versus Macron
People from all over the world were seen congratulating France on electing a President they would be “proud of”, unlike the United States.
When France Didn’t Let Russia ‘Win’
Following an investigation report that alleged that Russia had helped Trump win the 2016 presidential election, the US Senate had asked for an investigation of the allegation. In the French elections too, reports suggest that Le Pen had the support of Putin. Macron’s win, however, as some tweets suggest, is Russia’s loss.
‘Mitron’ Over Macron
From poking fun at the man we chose to run our country, to taking a jibe at Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi, Indians too flooded Twitter with their take on the new President of France.
