Uttar Pradesh will now have an exclusive ambulance service for cows. Uttar Pradesh deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya flagged off the vans in Lucknow on 30 April.

The ‘Gauvansh Chikitsa mobile vans’ will tend to the healthcare needs of cows, and will rescue injured cows and transport them to cow shelters or a veterinary doctor.

A veterinary doctor and an assistant will be present in the ambulance, The Hindu reported, adding that Maurya inaugurated five of the vans on Sunday. The deputy CM took to Facebook to share photos of the launch.

According to The Hindu, the vans will initially be available in Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Mathura and Allahabad and will be run in association with MNREGA Mazdoor Kalyan Sanghathan, whose workers are said to be employed in informal sectors.

Uttar Pradesh is now the second state to have a cow ambulance service, after Madhya Pradesh, which launched a similar scheme last month.
